about

Vancouver, Canada by way of Horsham, UK producer Juri Gregurec, aka Twentytwo22 has been slowly honing his craft to near-perfection over the past several years. He is a revered producer in Vancouver’s vibrant underground Bass Music scene, and a member of the notorious TURU crew. His productions are precise and show a keen ear for mix. Juri is a shining example of a new breed of producer that isn’t afraid to dip his toes in many different pools. He skillfully balances elements of Footwork, Grime, House and Jungle into his own hybrid malange of multi-tempo, bassy goodness.

This EP sees Juri shine and do his damn thing over 6 tracks which spans a wide variety of tempos, but each tune within possesses his characteristic sound and precision. Fans of Jungle, Footwork, Bass House and Grime will surely find music to love on this release.

“Wid Dem I Defend” starts things off and gradually builds through a lush chord sequence which rolls into some classic Jungle breaks, chopped with detail, constantly progressing with subtle edits and clever manipulation. This brings you back to golden-era jungle and sends you on your way. “LDXS” is a leftfield House banger that slinks along with a greasy bassline and menacing rides, bodly flipping scripts midway to inject a dose of grimey nastiness that never feels out of place. A perfect example of 2222’s prowess as a producer. “Don’t Trip” reminds us not to get it twisted. The infectious, Jungle meets Footwork rythms on this cut are the perfect bed for pulsing bass, vocal chops and cheeky dominator stabs. “Distant Screams” starts off with a cloying synth-line that drops into the song’s namesake, distant screams. A massive 808 sub and minimal percussion are layered with synth and fx beds to create an eerie but sly vibe. “Redemption” is a Halftime hybrid slapper at 165 BPM. It beckons with it’s haunting refrain and hooks you in with it’s catchy beat and emotive vocals floating in and out of the ether. Lastly, “Satellites” is a delightfully uncategorizable hybrid of House and Grime. It’s tough-as-nails bass backs the slapping snares and nasty FX stabs. A great way to wrap up this diverse EP.
