Most people are shocked to learn that one of bass music’s hottest up-and-coming names hails from a small town, nestled in BC’s Okanagan region. That name of course, is Abstrakt Sonance and the town is Salmon Arm. His reputation as a no-holds-barred producer has won him the respect of dons like Mala, Youngsta, J:Kenzo, Joe Nice and Hatcha, and also a collaboration and music released on the latter’s label, Hatched. Plus releases on Truth’s fantastic, Deep, Dark & Dangerous imprint. In addition, he has become known as a top-tier Grime producer, who has worked with legends D Double E and Drapez & Irah. We have collaborated with Tyler in the past and have always been in awe of his production prowess, so we’re thrilled to bring him into the Aufect camp and let him flex his unique sound.

While Abstrakt Sonance is a name most typically associated with 140 bpm material, he is also adept in the upper-tempo ranges of Drum & Bass, and his superb drum editing skills are perfectly suited to his precisely composed arrangements and expertly filtered basslines in that context.

The title track “Misfits” eerily creeps into the ether and slides into a sub and percussive hook that infectiously bounces around the stereo field, while subtle but powerful snares keep the rhythm moving and punctuating the kick. “Centre” is a belter of classic Drum & Bass that utilizes sneakily filtered bass snips to give it it’s cheeky attitude, while the rolling drums keep the energy level high. “Run It” gives us a taste of Tyler’s Grime proclivities but in an 85 bpm context. He flexes his trademark percussive details to precise effect and bangs out with an 808 sub polyrhythm that will certainly freak out dancefloors. Lastly, “Busy” with collaborator and BFF spirit animal, Leo Zen, wraps things up with it’s tense, stepping rhythms and stabbing bass edits with sliding notched filters flying every-which way. Its a fun and crazy ride that leaves you wanting more, then says “fuck you” and leaves at 3:23. Love and kisses.
